Dating is a science - why Bumble, Tinder & Hinge haven’t been working for you

Our resident Wingmate, Judy, unpacks why you aren't getting results from all the effort you're putting into online dating.

Tinder & Hinge haven’t been working for you

Small Call to Action Headline

If you’ve been swiping long enough, you’ll know a few things about dating apps.

You’ll know that despite an enormous pool of people, it's damn hard to get matches.

You’ll know that even if you do match, the chatting stage is usually awkward af.

And you’ll know that you’ll give up in frustration, only to re-download the apps and start swiping again in a month’s time after a weekend on the couch that reminded you how alone you are.

What you may not realise is that you’re stuck in a cycle. And you’re stuck in that cycle because, believe it or not, there’s actually a method to the dating-app madness that you didn’t know about.

Dating is a science. There’s a formula for success and if you follow it, you’re guaranteed a far better outcome than the adhoc doom-swiping that's got you this far (which is not very far at all if we’re being honest). Some of us have even been swiping so long, we’ve got ourselves a real good case of carpal tunnel syndrome.

The happy news is that those days are over. It’s time to put our hearts full of optimistic hope to the side, and let our brains come in and do some heavy lifting for a change.

The great scientist himself, Albert Einstein, even knew that swiping constantly without any strategy or plan was never going to work. He’s the dude responsible for the whole “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” theory. Perhaps he knew that in 2022 we were going to need his wisdom to get us off this dating roundabout.

So, swiping without a purpose is out. Swiping with intent, with a strategy and using a tried and tested formula based on actual research, is in. And before you say, ‘nope, I’ve given up, there’s no one out there for me’, let me remind you of a key fact, there are 4.5 million Australians currently using dating apps. There is ONE of you. You are not swiping in a teeny tiny little pool of people. It is a literal ocean. If there isn’t one person for you somewhere in that 4.5 million, I’ll eat my hat. Other than it being statistically improbable (see - dating is science AND math!), it’s probably because in your speed-swiping-without-a-strategy haze, you totally overlooked your person. Trust me, they’re in there, you just have to look in places you haven’t looked before. Hidden gems and all that.

Take my advice, after all I am a scientist.

Slow TF down, get yourself a formula and get to work.

You’re only one date away.
